Why do men and birds sing?

Do you know why people sing? If man has to trace the origin of the singing behaviour means, he has to travel back to the evolution of vertebrates. Do animals sing? If so what would be the purpose for which they sing?
Studies have shown that song is different from calls.
This piece of scientific evidence shows and supports the fact that animals do sing songs like humans.
The question to be answered is why human being sings songs?

Singing is one of the earliest behavioural traits assumes to have great value in expressing the feeling of joy, happiness and celebration etc.
The pre-historic man is believed to have sung songs in groups during different seasons of the year and is believed to be due to his joy or it was a form of thanking the nature for its kindness and benevolence.

With time, the song man was singing for himself for his happiness turned out to be his livelihood/need/recognition etc.
The affluent lot in the society and those who cannot sing so well started using the 'singers' for filling their inner joy. Thereby, the culture of music grew in the society.
