Sparkling wine from America, Champagne if it comes from the holy land in France, or Cava from Spain, and semi-sparkling (Proseccos, Moscato D’ Astis, Gavis) are again incredibly food friendly and not just for parties. Spicy food + Sparkling wine = Heaven. Try the Trevisiol Prosecco or the Tre Donne Moscato D’Asti. Both are beautiful examples of the semi-sparkling scene.
Roses. Again, why do Americans do this? White Zinfandel is not wine it’s soda pop. Balanced, with a hint of fruit sweetness and a dry finish, a well made rose is a beautiful thing. A true rose on a hot day? Wow! I tried the Negroamaro Salento Rosato at a trade tasting recently and loved it. And if you haven’t tried the Rosato from Yellow Hawk, yes a Walla Walla producer, go buy it right now.
Sauvignon Blanc is the workhorse of wines. Chicken, fish, pork, veggies. How about a fruit and cheese plate with a nice baguette? Yes. When the other wines get tired, Sauvignon Blanc says, “I will work harder”. Spokane’s very own Mike Scott, of Lone Canary, makes a Sauvignon Blanc that all others should be judged by. Easily our best selling Sauv.
