Lightning strikes you down
Life's been turned around
Your baby boy has left you here today
Nineteen years ago
A back seat love making show
She called him Jack because she hated John
All thru his life
Never more than just a wife
to a half dozen men that Jackie never knew
He talked of college one time
But being bad was always on his mind
military service was the only thing left to do
Jackie called his mom that year
On her birthday but she wasn't there
The bars have taken Jackie's mother away
Fighting hard for you and me
Taking orders he never disagrees
Always the first to volunteer for any job
Now he heads up a full platoon
He leads his men into a dirty ruin
He takes on the fire of a school age little boy
Jackie falls to his knees
He thinks of mother and the turning leaves
In the yard of the home that Jackie knew
but where he never found love
no he never found love
Lightning strikes you down
Life's been turned around
Your baby boy has left you here today
Your baby boy has left you here today
Hey bartender fill my Tanqueray
