Workshops de Agrofloresta com Ernst Gotsch em Portugal

Ernst Gotsch
Ernst Gotsch was born in Switzerland in 1948. In the 70′s, he worked with the genetic optimisation of plant species. This research lead him to the conclusion that instead of trying to adapt the species, he could get better results if he created agroecosystems in witch plants, in a cooperatave system, would develop vigorously without chemical inputs. After getting the first results in Switzerland, he moved, in 1979 to Costa Rica, where he worked in the recovery of degraded lands. He Implemented numerous complex and highly productive systems that avoided all kinds of fertilizers and pesticides. In 1982 he settled in Brazil. He began by consulting to various farms and in 1984 he started a project to restore an area of 500ha of highly degraded soil, in the south of the Bahia state.

After 15 years, the Atlantic forest (local ecosystem now highly endangered), was rebuilt and all the characteristic fauna reinstalled and at the same time it became an extremely productive area with a large number of species including cocoa and bananas. Since 1993, after achieving outstanding results, he has dedicated himself to teach his methods All over the world.
Today, Ernst advises non-governmental organizations, universities and rural technical assistance agencies in almost all regions of Brazil as well as organizations in Europe and Latin America.
