Silvia Filipe was born at Montepellier, in France, but very early moved to Portugal
– her family country. At the age of sixteen begins her Fado career participating in some concerts.
In 1989 wins the Grande Noite do Fado contest, at Lisbon Coliseum, playing the song Folha Caída” (Falling Leaf).
During this same year participates at the Radio Renascensa’s “The Artist Am I” contest.
This brought her the chance of having her winner theme recorded for a compilation by the radio station. 2 years later is approved for the TV Song Contest.
During September 2003 Silvia Filipe releases her first solo record – “Sea of Fado”. From this moment onwards she plays both in Portugal and abroad – Holland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Canada.
In her performances Silvia Filipe associates her Fado singing with other arts: poetry, painting and handcraft.
They are part of her artistic world, … and so are the dresses she wears on stage, handmade and designed by herself.
