Puglia is a region providing the ideal environment for different products, in particular olive trees, wheat and vines.
The coastal area is particularly devoted to the cultivation of olive trees, leading to five PODs and no less than one third of the Italian production of extra-virgin olive oil.
Moreover, Puglia is also marked by a very large wheat production and it was considered the “breadbasket of Italy”. The wheat production leads to a wide range of hand-made pasta products and the famous Altamura bread PDO , a dark and tasty product of the folk tradition.
The production of vegetables and fruits is also varied, including the famous turnip tops, the basic ingredient for a very famous typical dish.
Finally, mention must be made of the innumerable RDO products which show the very high quality of the wine production in Puglia, offering a very wide range of wines.
